What’s not to love about “The Show Me” state in the fall? With the leaves turning a myriad of warm, golden-red hues, it’s time to get out for a Sunday drive, and enjoy all that nature has to offer you from the comfort of your Machens Ford.

First, get your checklist. Stock up on snacks, grab a driving partner or get the perfect playlist for going solo. Next, give yourself the perfect amount of time to mosey along the highway or pack a picnic and make a day out of it. Finally, snap a pic or two – fall is sometimes a brief window in our seasons, but perhaps some of the prettiest weather and nature fill it to the brim. Don’t let it pass you by.

Here are a few of our favorite routes from all over the state –

  1. Blue Buck Knob Scenic Byway: While a bit of a trek from our hometown, the roads are second-to-none. A full 25 miles between Cabool and Route 14 will have you in the middle of the Mark Twain National Forest in Ozark Hill Country. Think rustic, scenic overlooks, and plenty of picturesque farmland.

  2. Historic Route 66 Byway: Over 300 miles from St. Louis to Joplin, Route 66 is a whirlwind of a trip. You can catch serious antiques and flea-market finds, old school diners, and an aesthetic that comes from times bygone. The scenery is just as beautiful as the notable stops you could make along the way.

  3. Little Dixie Highway: If you’re feeling nostalgic and want to take a look at the Old South, this 117 mile drive from Hannibal to St. Louis is packed with view of plantation style mansions and streetscapes reminiscent of the Victorian era.

The time is now to enjoy that crisp weather while exploring all our beautiful state has to offer. We’ll see you out on the road.
